We figured its about time to do some lab simulations with some of the new Citrix XenApp releases, and some of the new feature packs and new products. For the sake of this document, lets get lazy and build out a small tight virtual infrastructure on one Windows 7 64bit host. Here are the specifications, and how we did it.
- This pc is a small powerhouse. but Happens to lack any decent graphic cards, which is fine with us. After firing up the performance information tools, here is our score.
- Calculations per second is good
- memory is good
- primary hard ok, although we have a solid state 32 gig drive on the box as well which is not the primary drive obviously.
- OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise (64 bit)
- version: 6.1.7600 build 7600
- Memory: 6GB
We decided not to go with any VMware product because we are not VMware fans, and would rather stay native to the OS or work with a Citrix product for virtualization of any kind. some would disagree but we don't care. Since we are totally low budget - our platform to host the Server OS is our nifty little windows 7 box and Windows Virtual PC for windows 7. Feel free to reference the following to see how we built out the environment.
