Now that you are comfortable with creating your
virtual machine in Microsoft Virtual PC for
windows 7. Lets load up a thin version of
Microsoft Server 2008 using our Citrix XenApp001
virtual machine.
- At this point, we are going to assume
you have already downloaded an evaluation
version of Windows Enterprise Server 2008 or
have already burned the iso to a disk or
have it stored locally or on flash media.
- If not, perhaps you have downloaded the
Virtual Machine Hard Drive Image (.vhd) for
Microsoft windows Enterprise Server 2008.
Either of the above should work fine.
-

- Right click your mouse on XenApp001
and select "settings"
- To attach your ISO image to your newly
created Virtual Machine click on "DVD
Drive". Now navigate to your image by
clicking browse and then click on ok after
you have selected your image.
- if your image is on a dvd, click on
"access a physical drive" then click on
the down arrow and select your dvd drive
letter.
-

- click on OK to continue
- Now we are ready to fire up your new
virtual machine. At the main screen, double
click on XenApp001 or right click and select
"open" with your mouse.
- if everything worked as anticipated, you
should see your virtual machine fire up,
immediately consume the allocated memory and
prompt you to start the configuration

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise (full
installation)

select "i accept the license terms" if
you agree
- click on next
- on the next prompt, you will be asked
what type of installation you want. since we
are not upgrading an existing OS, our only
option is a custom install.
-

- select the custom (advanced) option
- you will then be asked where to
install.
- select disk 0 unallocated space
(should be default) and select next.
- sit back and relax. your OS will now
install itself.

allocated to this server install, you
may have to wait for a wile for the
installation to complete.
-

- Now you are done! Set your new
password for the "Administrator" account
to something you can remember.
